Rock en Seine’s commitments

ECOLOGY

The preservation and the enhancement of the heritage of the National Domain of Saint Cloud is a key element of the festival policy, as well as the objective to reduce the environmental effect of the festival on the Earth. Here are the objectives we set and what we put into action:

PRESERVATION OF THE DOMAIN

  • The preparation of the festival takes into account the specific features of the place that welcomes it and everything is made to be sure that it won’t change or have an impact on the place.
  • After the 120 000 festival-goers went, the festival gives back the place as it was before
  • Every year, the festival sponsorship for the Domain so it can fund the refurbishment of a space or a monument of the domain
  • The festival also drives awareness of the public regarding the specific features of the place and the issues regarding the preservation with video displayed on the huge screen between the shows

LIMITATION OF GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS

  • The festival is easy to reach by metro, train, tramway, bus, autolib, velib to encourage people to come with public or clean transports
  • The timetables are made so people can go back home with public transport: 75% of festival goers come from Paris using public transport or by walking
  • Sponsorships with SNCF stimulate people from provinces or foreign countries to come by train: 65% of festival goers from provinces or foreign countries come to Paris by train, bus or carpooling
  • The festival team is using mainly bikes and electric vehicles on the site
  • The festival mainly employs providers and service providers from the Paris area

CONTROLLING ENERGY CONSUMPTION

  • The stage lighting is more and more made from LED lights
  • A hybrid uninterruptible power supply (device loaded beforehand in green energy for a power supply without impact for the place where it is then used) has been tested on the festival will be used this year to provide all an area with clean energy

WASTE REDUCTION

Since the 2016 edition, information on the booklet has been transferred to the app which represents 200 000 booklets of 56 pages

  • A big amount of tap water has been placed all around the festival to limit the number of water bottle
  • We are also using Ecocups which allows avoiding to throw hundreds of paper cups
  • The awareness of sponsors and service providers before the event and their implication on the sustainable development matter allow limiting most of the waste. Thereby, the festival produced 10 tons less waste in 2017 compared to the 2016 edition which represents a decrease of 15%
  • The signage elements manufactured for the festival are planned to be re-used for most of the edition and discarded elements are revalorised

WASTE AND SORTING MANAGEMENT

  • 120 bi-flow or tri-flow collection points (sorting bins) are distributed on the side and are particularly reinforced on the meal areas
  • A team of 30 persons is dedicated permanently to waste management
  • A partnership with the society Phénix allows avoiding the food wastage by gathering the retainable food, but also to reuse the materials in good condition recovered from the stands. Thus 6 tons of materials and 350 kilos of food were collected for several associations and 400 families

In general, waste management and awareness to the team during the preparation of the event allows reaching a rate of 25% of sorted and rehabilitate waste.
