Fat Possum Records always back winners, and the new Dehd album is no exception. Just released in May, these three Americans recently joined the indie label known for launching The Black Keys, The Walkmen and The Districts. Originally from Chicago, thirtysomethings Emily Kempf, Jason Balla and Eric McGrady are certainly steeped in purebred caustic rock, surrounding themselves with reverb, dream-pop, surf-rock guitar and distant female vocals reminiscent of the Cocteau Twins. The pandemic seems to have been a productive and creative moment for them, yielding their third album in the summer of 2020, Flower of Devotion, followed by this year’s Blue Skies. Long live Dehd!
