Weaned on a diet of Prince and D’Angelo, this soul and R&B prodigy was born in Oxford, where he grew up devouring his favourite albums to the point of having an encyclopaedic musical knowledge. But it was only when one of his first tracks was used at Virgil Abloh’s last fashion show that Elmiene gained self-confidence (shortly beforehand he was considering accepting a security guard position). His debut EP, released at the beginning of last year tells you how to pronounce his stage name: El-Mean. His second EP, from the end of 2023, takes him to the next level. Praised by Questlove, Missy Elliott, and Pharrell, this Brit with Sudanese roots has a bright future ahead of him and we’ll be following his career eagerly, especially his work-in-progress first album.
