FKJ is short for French Kiwi Juice, the brainchild of Vincent Fenton. It’s his stage name and also the title of his first album, released in 2017 on the Roche Musique label. Born just over thirty years ago, his mother is French and his father is from New Zealand (hence “kiwi”), this multi-instrumentalist (capable of switching from guitar to drumkit, synth to bass or sax without batting an eyelid while simultaneously manning the tech) grew up in Tours, dipping into his parents’ record collection since he was just a kid. Between funk, groove, electro and jazz, his first singles already created a buzz, especially Tadow, an improvisation with Masego. You just have to watch the video, filmed live, to understand how FKJ’s hyperactive mind works and the way he performs on stage, leaping from one instrument to the next, effortlessly overlapping sounds.
