Do we really need to introduce this Grammy award and Mercury Prize winner? Let’s have a go anyway. On top of shaking up the press and the public from the outset with his eponymous debut album, James Blake’s projects get more interesting every time, and each one shows his increasing self-confidence in his vocal range, his songwriting and also when producing others (he has collaborated with the likes of Beyoncé, Frank Ocean, Kendrick Lamar, and that’s just listing the superstars). On his own albums, this English thirtysomething has gained in amplitude without forsaking the minimalism of his early days and his uncanny taste for silence. His introspective mood coupled with songs that delicately blend electro, soul, ambient and trip-hop make for an atmospheric live experience.
