If Vampire Weekend and Mumford & Sons had kids, they would be exactly like Kitchies, a French band whose sunny melodies sound like singalong stadium anthems.
The four band members come from Nice, which explains the French Riviera ambience that imbues their songs. But in a way they are also from Brighton, the English seaside town where they were living when they formed the band in 2010. Self-styled as a “summer pop band”, they have already released several EPs, the most recent is called “Tropical Sunset”. Their songs hint at the exotic, with African rhythms and scintillating melodies. Best listened to live with a cold drink, or even in the middle of winter when you need something to fill your world with warmth and light.
