Let’s take a moment to appreciate the majestic titles of the first two albums by this Dutch trio: Close Eyes to Exit (2016) and The Noise You Make Is Silent (2020). With these words you can trace the outline of the kind of music Koen van de Wardt, Wannes Salome and Erik Buschmann (the three members of Klangstof) play: dreamy, refined introspective indie-rock which gives way to silence and a desire to escape to peaceful open spaces in order to calm the inner storm. Obvious influences are Alt-J, Sigur Rós and Radiohead (the androgynous voice of their singer is akin to that of Thom Yorke). This year the band released an exquisite new EP, Ocean View, that leaves the memory of dreams in its wake. Their concerts are moments of pure bliss that take you to a higher plane.
