Yet another reason to marvel at the quality of the Irish rock scene! After Dublin-based bands Fontaines D.C. and The Murder Capital, here comes four-piece NewDad from Galway. Julie Dawson, Áindle O’Beirn and Fiachra Parslow formed the band while still at high school and were joined by Sean O’Dowd shortly after. In 2020 they released their first few singles, garnering several million streams. Their first two EPs, Waves (2021) and Banshee (2022), confirmed their promising start. Led by singer-composer-guitarist Julie Dawson, NewDad are clearly influenced by the sound of The Cure, Pixies and Slowdive. They add their own personal touch, one that shows the incredible panache of four young twentysomethings at the very start of a stellar career.
