At 25, Alemeda is the latest gem on the Top Dawg Entertainment roster – home to artists like SZA and Doechii – and she looks well on her way to becoming East Africa’s first true pop star. A friend of Rachel Chinouriri, she grew up in Arizona and her stage name is adapted from her surname. In 2024, she laid the foundations of her rising career with FK IT, an alt-pop EP which she feels represents her far better than her earlier 2021 drum and bass single. An album seems like the natural next step, but in the meantime this Sudanese-Ethiopian artist is putting in the work – gigging relentlessly and reaching ever loftier heights with knockout singles like Don’t Call Me, Guy’s Girl, I Hate Your Face and I Already Dug Your Grave.
