Active since 2010 across various labels, Jessica93 recently joined the Born Bad roster and the pairing made perfect sense. This coalition of rock benefactors has already delivered on its promise: the album 666 Tours de Périph’, released last summer, has been on heavy rotation among fans of shoegaze, cold wave, grunge and, more broadly, rock in all its darker forms. Cheap drum machines, cavernous echoes, a production ethos that remains resolutely DIY and sharp-edged French vocals (after years favouring the language of Robert Smith and Kurt Cobain), define the sound of Geoffroy Laporte, the musician from greater Paris behind Jessica93. Alone at the helm, he crafts tracks that promise fierce, guitar-shredding live shows, with an impact close to a “surgical strike” effect, as one of his new tracks pledges.
