With Mannequin Pussy, raw and wounded lyrics coexist with melodic surges, abrasive guitars with radiant indie rock atmospheres, and it is in this space of exhilarating contradictions that the band have carved out their place on the American punk scene over the past few years. Formed in Philadelphia in 2010, this close-knit group is built around guitarist Maxine Steen, drummer Kaleen Reading, bassist Colins “Bear” Regisford and founder, singer and guitarist Marisa “Missy” Dabice. “I want to be adored,” she sings on the second track of their fourth and latest album, I Got Heaven (2024), released on Epitaph.
