Formed in North Carolina and one of the flagship acts on the Dead Oceans label, this American band has shown remarkable stamina, with six albums released since forming in 2017. Rooted in a rock-country vein where pedal steel and lap steel play a central role, the mixed-gender five-piece is fronted by the sensational Karly Hartzman on vocals and guitar. One of their members, MJ Lenderman, still records with them in the studio but has stepped away from touring since last year, busy with his own flourishing solo career. No matter: Wednesday presses on valiantly in front of ever-growing audiences.
