Who are these Psychotic Monks who describe themselves on their Facebook page as ‘chaos as thoughtful as it is uncontrollable’?
Forgoing the requisite robes and bald patches, this Parisian group rejects the idea of a single leader/guru and prefers to move as a pack to preach sound and fury. The Psychotic Monks released their debut album Silence Slowly And Madly Shines last year, and its edgy explosions are still reverberating through the French rock scene. After travelling France and Europe on extended tours, in April these incisive rockers landed the Prix Chorus award, a springboard designed to support young French talent. They fully deserve this spotlight being shone on their firebrand English-language tracks with shredded and saturated guitars, which sometimes give way to moments of respite and contemplation – in other words, the calm before the storm.
