Close to the eighties aesthetic of Stranger Things and the dark electro of France’s Kavinsky, Emily Jeffri made a name for herself in the summer of 2023 on TikTok when she was just 18 years old. Since then, this precocious English artist has released an impressive first album, Soundtrack for an 80s Horror Movie, in line with the dark vibe of her early singles (special mention goes to Where Are They Now??? and Do You Remember Me???). These are like electronic murder ballads, rich in unsettling synths and intense sensations, where ghostly atmospheres are counterbalanced by the clear and pure voice of the singer, composer, and producer. Her new single, Verse, has deservedly been compared to Hozier’s hit Take Me to Church.
